About the Perennial Way
About the Perennial Way
Based on teachings of the Perennial Wisdom (or Philosophy), we imagine the Perennial Way as a spiritual path paved by the universal truths about reality, human nature, and the path to spiritual realization.
Far from exhaustive, our collection of ancient and contemporary teachers along with their written and recorded works is designed to help spiritual aspirants in their quest for truth, peace, God.
Some of the core principles of the perennial wisdom include:
- There is a single, eternal reality which is the source of what we call existence. This One transcends time, space, and form and is usually known as God, Tao, Brahman, the One, consciousness, awareness, source, presence, etc.
- Because it is One (or, per Advaita Vedanta, One without a second), we are undifferentiated from It. Our senses (and conditioning tell us we are separate beings located in time and space, but these perceptions are illusions, unreal).
- Our life’s purpose is to re-cognize this Oneness, to awaken to our true nature through what is known as enlightenment or liberation (we become ‘en-lightened’ or encumbered of these false selves).
- Unconditioned and permanent states of love, compassion, bliss are possible only through conscious union with this One.
- Due to the limitations and constraints of language, the mystics use different pointers but ultimately are pointing to the same truth.
Some Caveats
This site is designed for truth seekers, those rare individuals grown weary of the material and mental states of consciousness that for so long have dominated (plagued) human life. These truth seekers sense that there is far more to this existence than meets the senses, and their search consumes much of their lives.
The site is the work of Doug Rekenthaler Jr., who runs a separate blog (bewareofthedoug.com) with thoughts and commentaries on his own life and spiritual quest. Although not entirely the case, most of the teachers and resources found here have been used by Doug at some point – teachers such as Christ Jesus, Guatama the Buddha, Meister Eckhart, Shankara, Dogen, Baal Shem Tov, Julian of Norwich, Rumi, etc.
Feedback is happily accepted here.
